Many thanks to Mazie for getting this blog up and running for the group! My dealings with blogs have been leisurely in nature. While I’ve never maintained one myself, I have quite a few friends and family members that blog regularly, and I “tune in” on occasion to keep abreast of the details of the events that they deem significant enough to share. Most recently, I’ve had a friend that is hospitalized for the duration of her pregnancy due to complications, and she’s turned to a blog as a means of keeping in touch with the many friends and family that she has spread across the globe. I’ve enjoyed the daily updates that she provides regarding the condition of her and the baby, and I’ve especially enjoyed the photos that she has shared – it makes us all feel somewhat connected with her and what she’s going through right now.
Due to the ease of information sharing that blogs facilitate, they are sure to be of great value in an educational setting. The first thing that comes to mind is the ease with which blogs will allow a group of students to collaborate on an assignment outside of the classroom. A blog would provide a central location for students to share information and ideas – it could also facilitate an easier assessment of student progress for teachers by providing a one-stop view into the inner workings of a group’s collaborative efforts!
