To be honest, I have not learned anything tremendously important in the course; at this point this course many of the discussions, readings, assignments, etc. have been very similar to those in my previous courses. This is my biggest compliant about the Med program at UMUC, the academic overlap between each of the classes are very high, I have had the same discussion about the use of wikis and blogs for the third time in six classes. Another example would be our first discussion in our first conference on how computer have changed schools, that we third time I have the same discussion. Hopefully, the next upcoming weeks will be more academically interesting.

Peter,
ReplyDeleteWhy so negative? I think that the reason for the overlap is to help us better understand the importance of those technologies. There must be a reason why they keep having us discuss wikis and blogging right? Just a thought.
Peter,
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you would make the comments, however do you think that each of these classes are building on the other. Since we are learning to use technology in the classroom our expectation for our students will be to use the same technology. That way we have experience. The use of blogs and wikis can be to promote students in different locations to work together. think of it this way, you will be the master of blogs and wikis...
My 2 cents!
I understand that there is a need to build upon previous material in order to move forward. I spend at least an eighth of my entire school year reviewing early American history with my students (material they supposely already learned) before I move on to modern American history. However, I spend the other 7/8 of the year covering new material. For example in a math class, you will always using the adding, subtracting, multiplication and division skills you learned in elementary school. However, by the time you get to high school, you are using the skills at a higher level, in algrebra, calculus, statics, etc. Where is the new material? The overlap is too great and it seems to me that there is a clear lack of coordination in the planning of the curriculm form this MEd program.

Peter,
ReplyDeleteI can totally see where you are coming from with the overlap of information. It just seemed that you were very negative in the original post. With the explanation you gave it is much clearer. I agree with you that some information is repedative but there must be a reason right?
