The pros and cons of blogging as a collaborative tool

After blogging for the last month I realized that there are many pros to using a blog as a collaborative tool in the classroom. Teachers are able to communicate with parents and students outside of the classroom, students are able to dicuss topics with other students, students can learn from their peers, and students can work on perfecting their writing schools by journaling. Teachers providing a blog in the classroom can benefit many but there can also be some cons to blogging. Students may not have access to the internet at home or they may feel uncomfortable typing on the computer. Another con is that parents may feel that blogging is closely related to texting or chatting online. With the cons the teacher will need to make proper adjustments to accomodate the parents and students. Ulitmately the job is to provide a learning tool for the students.
